Re: 3D trig problem

Post  fergus on Sat Nov 06, 2010 12:01 am

okay i think i got it my answer was 59 degrees
i dont think theres any need for codecogs here so ill jst type it directly:
firstly i took the square base and found AC which is 18.526 i used Pythagoras for this by spliting the square base and then acting like it was a right angled triangle
next i found VED by dividing 18.526 by 2 (9.263) to get another right angled triangle but this time its vertical.
i no the side VD is 18.2
and the side ED is 9.263
so then its adjacent over hypotenuse so its Cos
so cos = 9.263/18.2
cos=0.5089
cos^-1(0.5089)
this equals the angle from the edge of the square to the base of the triangle Smile
59.405 but to give it to the closest degrees
59 degrees

maybe i shuld have used codecogs :s
anyways that was fun Laughing

ime not sure what the answer is but i believe the to find the answer you need to create a triangle intersecting the the middle of both planes since if you use the edges length of the pyramids triangle going to the corner you are not working out the planes angle but the corners angle to the base of the pyramid making this problem far more difficult however as i said ime not sure and could easily be wrong.
